Everyday setup and handling

The SH02 is uncomplicated in daily use. The transparent lid gives you a clear view of both spools, while the front display keeps the important information easy to read. I found the menu and controls intuitive rather than overloaded.

The available programs are helpful because you can choose a preset instead of working out every temperature and drying-time combination from scratch. Manual adjustment is still available when a particular material or spool needs different settings.

Filament routing and printing from the dryer

The filament guidance is one of the better parts of the design. The outlets make it practical to route filament out of the enclosed dryer and towards the printer, so the spool can remain protected while it is being used.

It also holds two spools, which is convenient if you regularly switch materials or want to prepare more than one roll in the same drying cycle.

Noise during operation

The main downside in my experience is the noise. I would not describe the SH02 as silent, and the character of the sound matters as much as the volume: it has a somewhat high-frequency tone that I notice while the dryer is running.

Whether this bothers you will depend on where the dryer is placed. In a workshop or separate printing room it may be unimportant. On a desk in a quiet home office, it is more likely to become noticeable during a long drying cycle.

SOVOL lists a 150W PTC heating system, a temperature range from 40°C to 70°C, a 3.9-inch touchscreen and presets for nine filament types. These are manufacturer specifications; my hands-on comments above relate to usability, filament routing, controls, value and operating noise.

Who is it for?

The SOVOL SH02 suits 3D-printing hobbyists who want an affordable dryer for two spools, prefer simple presets and want to feed filament directly from an enclosed box.

If your printer sits beside you in a very quiet office and noise is a major concern, I would pay particular attention to placement or consider a quieter alternative.

My verdict

Overall, I like the SOVOL SH02. It is easy to operate, the filament routing works well, the display is straightforward and the preset programs make it approachable. At its price, it offers good practical value. The operating noise and its slightly high-pitched character are the main compromises.
